Applications and Health Benefits of Fucoxanthin
Fucoxanthin shows biological activities such as anti-obesity, anti-oxidant, antitumor, anti-diabetes and anti-inflammatory properties.
The anticarcinogenic activity of fucoxanthin is reported to be the strongest among xanthophylls and carotenoids and is shown to prevent liver and skin cancer due to its antioxidant activity, and breast and prostate cancer through induction of apoptosis.
Fucoxanthin exhibits anti-obesity effects through stimulating the expression of mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 in white adipose tissue.
